How to Care for Your Vehicle Wrap: Tips from Brandit Bandit

Kara Pelletier | 01 Jul, 2025 | 0 Comments | Return|

At Brand It Bandit, we understand that vehicle wraps are a significant investment for both personal and business purposes. To ensure your wrap looks its best and lasts as long as possible, proper care and maintenance are essential. Here are some tips on how to keep your vehicle wrap in top condition.

Regular Cleaning

Regular cleaning is crucial to maintaining the appearance and longevity of your vehicle wrap. Dirt and contaminants can degrade the vinyl over time, so it's important to keep your wrap clean.

  • Frequency: Wash your vehicle wrap at least once a week, or more frequently if it is exposed to heavy pollutants or debris.

  • Method: Hand washing is recommended for the best results. Use a soft, clean cloth or a quality automotive sponge with a mild detergent like Meguiar's NXT Generation Car Wash or any other mild detergent!

  • Rinse and Dry: Rinse thoroughly with water to remove all soap residues. Use a chamois or silicone squeegee to remove excess water and prevent water spots, then dry with a clean microfiber cloth.

Spot Cleaning

For tough spots and stains, immediate action is key to preventing damage.

  • Stains and Bird Droppings: Remove bird droppings, tree sap, and other difficult stains as soon as possible. Soak the area with warm, soapy water to loosen the contaminants, then rinse and dry.

  • Special Cleaners: For stubborn stains, use products like Meguiar's Gold Class Bug and Stain Remover or 3M Citrus Base Cleaner. Always test these cleaners on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure they do not damage the wrap first.

Pressure Washing

While hand washing is preferred, pressure washing can be used with caution.

  • Pressure Settings: Keep the pressure below 2,000 psi to avoid damaging the wrap.

  • Spray Angle: Use a spray nozzle with a 40-degree wide-angle pattern and maintain a water temperature below 140°F.

  • Distance: Hold the nozzle at least 12 inches away from the vehicle and avoid directing the spray at the edges of the wrap to prevent lifting.

Avoid Harsh Conditions

To extend the life of your vehicle wrap, minimize exposure to harsh conditions whenever possible.

  • Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause the wrap to fade and degrade. Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a garage or under a shade to protect it from UV rays. In places like South Texas, this is crucial to the longevity of your wrap.

  • Extreme Temperatures: Avoid parking your vehicle in extreme temperatures, as this can affect the adhesive properties of the vinyl and complicate the removal process.. So if you are working an Astros game in Houston, make sure to park in the shade during peak temperatures.

  • Chemical Exposure: Keep your vehicle away from harsh chemicals and solvents, which can damage the wrap. Avoid using engine degreasers, oven cleaners, and strong kitchen or bathroom cleaners.

Conclusion

Proper care and maintenance are essential to keep your vehicle wrap looking vibrant and lasting longer. By following these tips from Brand It Bandit, you can ensure your wrap continues to protect and enhance your vehicle's appearance for years to come!
